The Michigan Wolverines may be losing Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., but that has not stopped the hype for this team entering the 2013-14 college basketball season. So, where does Michigan stand in the Big Ten?
In a recent power ranking, ESPN’s Seth Greenberg has Michigan ranked as the No. 2 team in the conference. The only team it trails is Michigan State. If this truly is the case, there will be some great battles in Michigan this year.
Ohio State comes in third, while Wisconsin and Iowa round out the top five. It is not really a surprise that Indiana did not crack the top five since it lost Cody Zeller and a bunch of other starters.
Whether the case, Michigan fans should be feeling pretty good about their team. There is just as much talent on this Wolverines team as there was last year. It hurts losing the National Player of the Year in Burke, but players will step up and Michigan will make the NCAA tournament once again. Heck, a second straight national championship appearance also could be in the future.
The Wolverines have a good enough team to be ranked in the top 10 and that should be the case once the season starts. Mitch McGary may be the most notable player on the team, but he may not even be the best Wolverine. That means bad news for the Big Ten and the rest of the nation. However, according to this power ranking Michigan will have to get by the Michigan State Spartans first.
