The Florida Gators have made three straight Elite Eight appearances and they are one of the best teams in college basketball on a yearly basis. So why not have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation? Well, that is exactly what Florida has done for the 2013-14 season.
The Gators will take on Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Richmond, Florida State, Memphis, Connecticut and Kansas (among others). If they can somehow get through that brutal out-of-conference schedule with no losses, they would likely be the No. 1 team in the nation.
As good as Florida will be, I am sure it will slip up at least once or twice before SEC play begins. Memphis, Connecticut and Kansas will all be national title contenders and you cannot count out the Badgers either.
The Jayhawks could enter the season by being ranked in the top five and a lot of that has to do with Andrew Wiggins joining the team–No. 1 recruit.
Florida has put together a great schedule that will have it ready for the 2014 NCAA Tournament. SEC play doesn’t always cut it, although Kentucky may enter the season by being ranked No. 1 overall and Florida will be a top 10 team.
The conference should be better than it was last year, however, Missouri will be losing some key players.
Whether the case, the Gators easily have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation and they will play a variety of teams, which will have them ready for the tournament and could lead to a good ranking and seed.
