For years, the SEC has been known as a dominant conference in terms of football, but a lack-luster one when it comes to basketball. However, 2014 is shaping out to be rather different as there are a handful of SEC Basketball teams that have a legitimate shot at making some hay this March. Of course, the Kentucky Wildcats and Florida Gators stand as the conference’s big-wigs, but let’s be sure not to overlook a few of the lesser known squads down south, because they are definitely starting to ruffle some feathers..

One program that needs more love is the Arkansas Razorbacks. By uprooting the Wildcats on an unreal, last-second dunk by Michael Qualls, the Razorbacks now sit ahead of John Calipari‘s crew with an impressive 12-4 overall record. Oddly enough, the victory over Kentucky marks the first time all season that Arkansas has defeated an SEC opponent.

The Texas A&M Aggies and Gators both got the best of the Razorbacks earlier in the year, but neither was able to top the Wildcats. Needless to say, there is a great level of parity in the SEC and no college basketball fan can be sure of what’s going to happen on a nightly basis. Surely, this is a conference that is going to be a force to be reckoned with once the brackets are finally filled out and it’s going to a blast to watch.
