Saint Louis Basketball Claims Atlantic-10 Title Outright, Poised To Go Deep In NCAA Tournament

Although the final weekend in the college basketball regular season proved to be meaningless for many teams, several conference crowns were still up for grabs, including the Atlantic-10 regular season title.

Saint Louis had already captured a share of the Atlantic-10 regular season title before Sunday’s game, but the Billikens wanted the honor all to themselves. With the win on Sunday, the Billikens won the conference title outright and will look to put a stranglehold on conference supremacy as the team enters the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed and heavy favorites to claim both the regular season and conference titles.

The Billikens defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen to claim the title in a back-and-forth game that came down to the wire. Jordair Jett sealed the win for Saint Louis as his driving layup with three seconds left lifted the Billikens to a 64-62 win on the road. Jett’s game-winning basket was just the cherry on top of a sound performance that saw the veteran guard score 17 points, grab four rebounds, and hand out three assists while serving as the floor general for this Billikens squad.

Saint Louis’ win did not come easy as the Billikens had to overcome a 20-point, nine-assist outing from Massachusetts’ Chaz Williams.

The win ended a three-game losing streak that had Billikens fans worried entering postseason play. Now that the Billikens have righted the ship, do not expect the team to look back as their talent and experience give them a great shot at advancing deep in both the A-10 and NCAA tournaments. The win over Massachusetts should serve as the launching point for a team that was struggling to find itself late in the season.
