Norman Powell was a very important player last season for the UCLA Bruins, averaging over 11 points a game and being the team’s best perimeter defender. Unfortunately, the Bruins have lost a lot of talent due to graduation and the draft, and will look to many underclassmen to become key contributors. The good news is that Powell will be back for another season, and he is key to the team’s success.

Powell shot a high percentage from the field and improved on his outside shooting, although it could still use a little work. He is great at attacking the basket and finishes at the rim with authority. He can get out on the break for easy chances, and will likely see his offensive output increase. The Bruins will need Powell to create offensively in order for the team to be efficient on that end of the court.

Defensively, Powell is one of the top perimeter defenders in the country. He is extremely athletic and had to match up against the best opposing guards last season. His ability to create turnovers can help start the fast break and allow the team to get easy buckets. He will once again be asked to provide lockdown defense, as there isn’t much defensive talent next to him.

The Bruins will need Powell to have a great season, as he will be the leader of this team. He is one of the few players with any experience, and his ability to play on both sides of the ball is a huge plus. The team will need him to score, defend, and provide leadership in order for the Bruins to be successful. He will be their most important player heading into next season.
