Tom Izzo Zings John Calipari With Pinocchio Joke
When it comes to college basketball coaches, it doesn’t get much better than Tom Izzo and John Calipari. Both men have been atop the sport for a long time.
These days, Izzo is still running one of the best true college programs in America at Michigan State, while Calipari openly admits that Kentucky basketball is heavily focused on getting players ready for the NBA. But at the same time, Calipari undoubtedly still has to do his best to recruit to try and win as many games as he can in college.
Plus, the more NBA players he produces, the more future recruits he’ll land. In theory.
So when Calipari held an open practice for NBA executives/scouts last week and tried to say it had nothing to do with recruiting, Izzo, wasn’t buying it.
Out of context Tom Izzo quote on John Calipari: “If he was Pinocchio he could have hung 10,000 shirts on that schnozzzer of his.”

Are all college coaches probably guilty of a little fibbing from time to time? Of course. But do some embellish a little more than others? You bet.
The safe bet is that Calipari was a used car salesman in another life.
