College basektball great Roy Williams has always been a North Carolina Tar Heel at heart, but he has also acknowledged over the years that there is no better stadium to play in than Allen Fieldhouse. His last visit there was a little bittersweet for the former Kansas Jayhawks‘ head coach.

“I haven’t actually been in Allen Fieldhouse since the last practice before we went to the Final Four in 2003,” Williams told the Kansas City Star. “I’ve said this, and I really believe this from the bottom of my soul: I think it’s the greatest home-court advantage in college basketball and maybe in any sport, whatsoever.”

He will get a chance to return on Monday, and it should be quite a special night. Kansas will stage its “Celebrating 60 Years” event next week that will feature Williams along with other former coaches Ted Owens and Larry Brown. The invitation for Williams to return was Bill Self‘s idea with some assistance from his wife, and it should be a great chance for Jayhawk fans to finally bury their hatred for Williams and welcome him back into their hearts.

Williams finished his Kansas career with the best winning percentage of any coach in their storied history, and although that mark has been surpassed so far by Self, it should still be noted that good ol’ Roy was the man who built that program into the powerhouse they remain today.

Williams had a 201-17 record at the Phog, but he should get one more win on Monday night.
