Matchup: Iowa State Cyclones (19-6) vs. Texas Longhorns (17-9)

The Longhorns aren’t necessarily as good as we thought they would be. Sure, they have a boatload of talent, but they also have nine losses to go along with that. Unfortunately, they are also about to play four ranked opponents in a row.

Iowa State hasn’t necessarily been dominant this season, but it still is a virtual lock to make the dance, and has also beaten ranked opponents in back-to-back games.

These teams have already met once this season, and the Cyclones won that contest by three points.

What to Watch For

Texas, once again, has a lot of talent. Isaiah Taylor is leading the team in scoring and Myles Turner is leading the team in boards. Going forward, both players, as well as others, have to play big.

Georges Niang is always going to get the most attention on this team. That is because he does so much (14.5 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 3.4 APG, 40 percent from three). With that in mind, there are five other guys who are averaging 10+ points per game on Iowa State.

Prediction

Texas needs this win. Not only would it be a serious resume booster, but it already has nine losses in 2014-15. Plus, things don’t get any easier after this game.

Unfortunately, we just don’t see the Longhorns winning. The Cyclones are on a little roll, and will continue that roll by winning this contest.

In the end, we still see Texas making the tournament, and we also see Iowa State entering the dance with a solid seed.

Iowa State 75, Texas 67
