Arguments can be made, but there is no denying Wisconsin Badgers big man Frank Kaminsky was deserving of the 2015 John R. Wooden Award, an accolade that recognizes the most outstanding college basketball player in the country. With the achievement, Kaminsky swept the Player of the Year awards, rightfully so.

After his breakout year last season, specifically in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Kaminsky followed it up with a performance in 2014-15 that was near perfection. In fact, he was only a few missed plays and a couple of bad calls away from leading the Badgers to a win in the National Championship, which would have been the school’s first since 1941.

Even though Wisconsin’s magical ride ended in disappointment, there is no question they had a run for the ages. The Badgers took the most difficult trip to the Final Four, where they upset an undefeated Kentucky Wildcats team that shook the basketball world to its very core. They then had the Duke Blue Devils on the ropes during the National Championship, but unfortunately, could not finish them off.

Despite coming up short, Wisconsin has nothing to be ashamed of. They made the entire state proud, and the team’s fans will never forget what Kaminsky did for the school. He will live on forever in Badgers lore, which is exactly how it should be after he led the team to back-to-back Final Fours in the first time in school history.

Kaminsky will now take his talents to the NBA, where he is projected to be a top-10 pick in the draft.
