Being ranked No. 1 at the beginning of the season puts a pretty big spotlight on a team. Not only is every difficult win questioned, but the players have to worry about people doubting them if they don’t beat everybody by 30.

When you’re the North Carolina Tar Heels and you have arguably the deepest and most talented roster in college basketball, some of that has to be warranted. With or without Marcus Paige, the Tar Heels have no business losing to a team most of the country has never heard of.

That said, they also can’t be condemned for losing to the Texas Longhorns either. This team is good, and will remain a factor. They will blow some teams out and scare their fans all year.

The early-season losses may turn out to be blessings in disguise. College programs need that from time to time to refocus. It’s better to get those out of the way now than suffer the same defeat in March. The ACC will prove all year that they’re still one of the best conferences in all of college basketball. Great teams will struggle. There will be upsets.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have proven that there won’t be a great deal of easy wins. Unfortunately for them, they just looked up realized where they were playing, who they were playing and may have started to think about what we’ve heard about North Carolina all year.

The ACC conference schedule is underway. The Tar Heels seem like they’re never going to get this magnificent roster all on the floor at the same time, but for now, things are peaceful in Chapel Hill.
