2016 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 10 Syracuse

By Trevor Lowry

The Final Four is almost among us.

If you are just now tuning in, let me say this: You have missed a lot. First off, the 2015-16 college basketball season was a complete mess — well, in the best way possible, that is — and the 2016 NCAA tournament apparently took note, because complete madness ensued thanks to upsets going down early and often.

Here’s the proof: The Syracuse Orange, who entered the Big Dance as a No. 10 seed, will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels, who entered the tourney with a No. 1 seed, in the Final Four.

Let’s take a moment to look at the path these two teams have traveled along during March Madness.

Syracuse’s wins in the tourney: Dayton, Middle Tennessee, Gonzaga and Virginia.

North Carolina’s wins in the tourney: Florida Gulf Coast, Providence, Indiana and Notre Dame.

What To Watch For

How about Jim Boeheim vs. Roy Williams? After all, they are two of the best coaches in the game.

In terms of talent on the court, take your pick.

Surely, plenty of eyes will be on Syracuse’s Michael Gbinije and North Carolina’s Brice Johnson, but there will be plenty of talent on the court outside of those two (we are talking about North Carolina and Syracuse here).

Prediction

These teams met twice during the season, and the Tar Heels captured both victories. Of course, now the Orange are just as hot as any team in the Final Four, they are coming off of a victory against the Virginia Cavaliers and they are only allowing 55.8 points per contest in the tournament.

That said, North Carolina entered the season as a top team in this sport, and they are still, of course, a top team in this sport. The Tar Heels are also putting up 89.3 points per game.

Needless to say, this clash should be filled with fireworks.

North Carolina 76, Syracuse 70
