Buddy Hield And The Oklahoma Sooners Have What It Takes To Cut Down The Nets

By Geoffrey Knox

We spent an entire year talking about Ben Simmons and his greatness, and for good reason, but Buddy Hield has all of the tools to replace him as the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft and lead his Oklahoma Sooners to the NCAA championship. You read that correctly. This football school has a realistic shot to win it all in college basketball.

Sure, there have been up and down moments in his scoring at various points of the season, but Hield’s also saved his best for some of the most important games. You don’t need to look any further than this tournament where he’s put up over 35 points twice in the last three games. To say he’s been on fire doesn’t quite do justice for what he’s done. Hield may be the most explosive offensive threat on any of the remaining four teams; and the way things are going, it doesn’t appear that he’ll cool down before the tournament closes.

Obviously, the Villanova Wildcats will have something to say about whether or not there’s actually two games remaining in Hield’s collegiate career. They look to eliminate the Sooners as they’re on a championship run of their own. There’s one problem; this is their second meeting with Oklahoma this year, and it didn’t work out too well the first time. What’s even worse is Hield had one of his worst offensive outings in that one, and his team still ran the Wildcats off of the floor.

Don’t expect Hield to struggle in their rematch, and don’t expect Villanova to duplicate the same poor performance they had either. Just expect some offensive fireworks and some discussion about him overtaking Simmons as the perceived best player in college basketball and future No. 1 pick when the NBA draft begins.
