North Carolina Looks To Finish 2015-16 Basketball Season Where They Began

By Geoffrey Knox

It appeared that the NCAA tournament was about to become an ACC tournament sequel as almost half of the conference just kept advancing. And just like their conference’s regular season and tournament, the North Carolina Tar Heels find themselves as one of the last teams standing. Two teams remain from a conference that sent six to the Sweet 16.

That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. This team could literally put their second string on the floor and still be competitive or even favored in many of the games they found themselves in. Their next contest should make ACC basketball fans smile as the Tar Heels find the Syracuse Orange standing in the way of their national championship plans.

The Tar Heels have it all working now, though. This team spent much of their year relying on their frontcourt as their perimeter attack struggled for various stretches of the season, but now they’re seemingly catching fire and can seem to drain shots from anywhere. Brice Johnson has found a consistent 15-foot jumper, and Marcus Paige seems to be completely past his injury now. They’ll need all of that working to take some sting out of the Syracuse zone defense.

The Tar Heels aren’t simply satisfied with being here. They’re here to show that their press clippings were accurate. They started this season at No. 1 and are intent on being back in that same spot when the season ends. Some of you have already handed them the title and for good reason, but they’ve still got two games to play. Look for them to remain the favorites if they advance regardless of what happens in the other game.
