Notre Dame's BCS National Championship Hopes Alive

In two losses that absolutely no one saw coming, the Kansas State Wildcats fell to the Baylor Bears 52-24 in the first one, an absolute route in Waco on Saturday night.

We should have at least had it on the radar; Baylor is an excellent team. Let’s not forget that they were involved in the 70-63 fiasco against the West Virginia Mountaineers earlier in the season. There were over 1,500 yards of total offense involved in that game.

But out is Kansas State, likely headed to the Fiesta Bowl much to the chagrin of the Oklahoma Sooners who are now likely out of a BCS bowl game, and headed to play in the Cotton Bowl.

But forget the other stuff, it’s the Notre Dame Fighting Irish who now don’t have to worry about anyone in front of them as they are currently in line to head to the BCS National Championship game for the first time in their storied schools’ history.

The Oregon Ducks also fell victim at home to the Stanford Cardinal, a game which saw Oregon scoreless until late in the first half. Oregon now sits in line for a possible BCS at-large bid, but is squarely out of the national championship picture..

Notre Dame still has a massive game against the USC Trojans on during Thanksgiving weekend, but now look like they have a shot at the national championship regardless of what anyone else does.

As long as they can win.
