Jarvis Jones Average at the Georgia Bulldogs NFL Pro Day

There was a full house of NFL coaches and scouts alongside a number of media members to give their first-hand, expert opinion of the Georgia Bulldogs participants at today’s NFL Pro Day.

Most eyes were on linebacker Jarvis Jones to see what he could do following his clean bill of health and confirmation of the misdiagnosis of his neck injury while with the USC Trojans by the NFL. But anyone watching it in person or on ESPN 3 today would all agree Jones was just so-so. Concerns over a tweaked hamstring didn’t keep Jones from performing, but it possibly did lead to his 4.85 40-Yard Dash and a pair of broad jumps at only 8’7 and 9’3.

So now the question to be asked is whether or not Jones’ stock, that exploded after his health clearance, is still worthy of a Top 10 pick. There definitely seemed to be something keeping Jones in check once again. Whether it was the hamstring, advice from advisers to take it easy or another issue, he has not been overly impressive at both the NFL Combine and in Athens today. Jones just could also be one of those players that isn’t going to workout well in set drills but is a beast when the whistle blows.

Despite the lack of confetti and balloons from Jones, there were a lot of other Bulldogs who improved their stock today.

Cornerback Sanders Commings looked like a beast benching 23 reps of 225 while big defensive tackle John Jenkins posted a 5.1 40-Yard Dash (which is crazy for a man that weights 346-pounds). Running back Richard Samuel posted a strong 10’5.5 in the broad jump while cornerback Branden Smith posted a 10’8 in the jump and a 4.3 40. Rounding out the other notable stats from the day was linebacker Alec Ogletree who posted a 4.53 40 and safety Bacarri Rambo who came in at 4.5 in the 40.

In all, today was a good showing for Georgia who should do the school and the SEC proud once again here in the next couple of weeks at the NFL Draft. Jones is still a story to keep your eyes on, though, because he could be a steal for a team late in the first round if his stock drops.
