College Football Recruiting: Miami Hurricanes Add Athlete Trayone Gray
Trayone Gray has put in considerable work at the Al Golden Football Camp this week. The somewhat unheralded athlete out of Miami Gardens, Florida (Carol City) has played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back for the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff. Now the staff will be seeing much more of Gray, as Rant Sports has learned that he has committed to join the Canes in 2014.
Gray is the latest of five commitments the Hurricanes have received over a busy recruiting weekend.
At 6-foot-2 210 pounds, Gray is an intriguing athlete that the Canes will have at their disposal. He has indicated that he would like to play quarterback at the collegiate level, but the Canes already have two quarterback commitments in Brad Kaaya and Alin Edouard, not to mention Kevin Olsen from last year’s class.
It’s more likely that he could line up as a wide receiver or safety for the Hurricanes. With his size and 4.6 speed, Gray has the prototypical skill set to play in the secondary.
Gray has received interest from a number of southern schools, including Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Georgia. The two time defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide had recently made contact with Gray as well. In the end, he didn’t want to wait for other offers and chose to stay home to play for the Hurricanes.
Gray is also a prolific track athlete and will likely participate in that as well at Miami.
One potential benefit of this commitment is it might establish a pipeline with Carol City, who is loaded with talent for the next few years.
