As Kyle Flood prepares the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for their move to the Big Ten in 2014, he continues to add talent to the roster. This time, he has secured an all-important in-state recruit and one of the top athletes of the 2014 class. How will Kiy Hester fit in with the Rutgers’ gameplan?

When talking about his decision to join his in-state school, Hester talked about how the recent history of Rutgers sending defensive backs to the NFL. That seems to indicate that Flood plans to use Hester in the secondary when he joins the team in 2014, and he should blossom into a solid contributor when he gets there.

At 6-foot-2, Hester has excellent size for a defensive back and has shown a very good ability to plant and drive out of his back-pedal when making a play on the football. His versatility as a wide receiver also gives him some very nice ball skills and could make him a dynamic playmaker in the secondary.

He will have some work to do on his change-of-direction ability with his hips but can make up for it with his physicality and speed to make an immediate impact when he gets to campus. It’s still left to be determined if he ends up playing cornerback or moving to safety, but either way, his athleticism should become a major boost to the Rutgers’ defense.

Rutgers has done a very good thing by locking up one of the top prospects in the state of New Jersey and should get plenty back for their recruitment of the four-star athlete. But just how good will Hester be for the Knights?
