Nick Saban has struck once again in the world of college football after four-star offensive line recruit Ross Pierschbacher announced today that he his has flipped his long time verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
This comes as huge and devastating news to head coach Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes football program, as Pierschbacher was the prized recruit so far for the Hawkeyes’ 2014 recruiting class. The part that will make it even harder to swallow for Hawkeyes fans is that Pierschbacher is a homegrown prospect out of Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Pierschbacher was one of the most highly-recruited lineman in the entire country and projects as either an offensive tackle or offensive guard in college. He held offers from top programs around the country, including Auburn, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Stanford.
It comes as no surprise to any fan of college football recruiting that Saban was able to convince a recruit to drop their commitment with another school and join the Crimson Tide program. Saban has won three of the last four national championships at Alabama, and they are the clear-cut best team heading into 2013 as well.
For Pierschbacher, it would be hard not to be attracted to the Alabama football program, given the recent NFL success their team has had during Saban’s tenure, especially on the offensive line. He will get elite coaching and facilities, and will get a better look from scouts when it comes time for him to go to the NFL.
