One of the top remaining recruits left on Florida State‘s board was in Tallahassee to witness Saturday’s impressive 63-0 blowout victory over the 25th ranked Maryland Terrapins.

Needless to say, the victory left a lasting impression on him and his family.

Four star safety Montae Nicholson (Monroeville, PA) made the trip south and got to see how dominating the Seminoles’ defense was firsthand.  Perhaps more importantly, he got to see how new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt used young players in his complicated defensive scheme.

One of those youngsters was Nicholson’s host for the trip, true freshman defensive back Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey has burst onto the scene as a true freshman and is one of the best playmakers on the back end for FSU.  He’s started every game and has been used in a variety of ways.

That fact likely resonated with Nicholson who has similar play making style in the secondary.

The 6-foot-2 210 pound Nicholson is actually listed as an athlete by some recruiting services because he could play a few different positions at the collegiate level.  At this point, he’s being recruited primarily as a safety by Florida State.

On the defensive side, Nicholson is fluid athlete who possesses great size.  While he doesn’t have elite speed, he has great acceleration and agility in small spaces.  He plays a physical brand of football and can play downhill or in the box to stop the run.  His versatility would be an outstanding addition to the defensive backfield for Pruitt and Florida State.

The Noles have a verbal commitment from Trey Marshall but not much else in the secondary.  As a result, Nicholson is one of the top remaining uncommitted players Florida State is pursuing.

He’s also considering Oregon, Pittsburgh, and Michigan State.
