Cornerback Bradley Roby is being called a key player for the Ohio State Buckeyes going into their game with the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday night.

Roby will be defending Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson, who Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has called one of the nation’s top wideouts. Roby needs to step up and show what he can do. He has not played up to his potential this season, so a big game against Penn State will prove how good he really is, as he covers a great receiver like Robinson on the national stage.

This is not the first time this season he has had to cover a top receiver. The Wisconsin Badgers came to town on Sept. 28 and Roby was covering Jared Abbrederis. Abbrederis had 207 yards and a touchdown. The Ohio State coaches, however, do not blame Roby for the yards given up to Abbrederis, because they said that he was left alone in coverage while the rest of the Ohio State defense tried to defend against a strong Badger running game.

A good game for Roby could also help boost a struggling Ohio State defense. The Ohio State defense wants to make up for their poor performance against the Iowa Hawkeyes last week. They need to have a good performance from Roby and the rest of the defense on Saturday, or they could be in trouble against Penn State.

The poor performance from the Ohio State defense last week could have to do with the fact that they lost one of their best players in Roby to an ejection in the first half. Roby was ejected for violating the targeting rule when he supposedly hit a receiver helmet first. Meyer says his defense is slow to overcome losses like that.

Meyer says that Roby needs to play his best game of the season. He knows what Roby is capable of and would like to see him display that on the national stage against Robinson, who he calls one of the nation’s top wideouts.

Roby is much better than what he has shown this season, and he needs to prove that on Saturday.
