Missouri Tigers Show They’re Not Pretenders vs. Tennessee Volunteers

After a heart-breaking overtime loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks last week, the Missouri Tigers are back on track. Mizzou showed why they deserve their spot in the top 10 with a 31-3 shellacking of the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night. With their disappointing inaugural season in the SEC, many thought the Tigers didn’t belong in the conference. Now they’re proving they not only belong, but should be feared.

Maty Mauk clearly won the battle of the freshman quarterbacks throwing for 163 yards, three TDs, and added 114 yards on 13 carries with no turnovers. On the other end, Joshua Dobbs had a rough college debut against a tough defense, compiling 285 total yards with two costly interceptions and no TDs. The two interceptions gives the Tigers a total of 17, good for third best in the nation.

On top of winning the turnover battle 3-0, Missouri outgained Tennessee 502 to 334. Their dominating performance against the Vols keeps them in the driver’s seat of the SEC East and in contol of their own destiny.

Great performances on both sides of the ball will be a much-needed momentum builder as the Tigers finish the season. With tough games against the Old Miss Rebels on the road, and the Texas A&M Aggies at home, the SEC East race could be a tight one. If the Gamecocks beat the Florida Gators in their last conference matchup, Missouri will have to win out to take the division.
