Who Will Win the Legends Division of the Big Ten?

Mike Carter – USA Today Sports

Who would have expected it? There are three teams in the Legends Division of the Big Ten who are hoping to go to the conference championship, but all of them may not be who you would expect.

In the Leaders Division, it is likely to be the Ohio State Buckeyes who will go to the conference championship. The only other team that would even have a chance is the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Buckeyes lead them by two games. Wisconsin has lost two games overall and has one Big Ten loss, which is to the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes are not expected to lose any games the rest of the regular season since the rest of their schedule includes the Illinois Fighting Illini in Champaign, Indiana Hoosiers at home, and the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Barring a huge upset in the next three weeks, the Buckeyes will be going to the conference championship.

Now as for the Legends Division race, the Michigan State Spartans and Nebraska Cornhuskers are still in it, as well as the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

What? Wait, that doesn’t seem right. It is — even though it’s a long shot. After losing their first two Big Ten games, Minnesota has been on a four-game winning streak, including a 24-10 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. Minnesota would need to win their last two games, which are at home against the Badgers and in East Lansing against the Spartans. They also need Nebraska to beat Michigan State this Saturday and then lose to Penn State or the Iowa Hawkeyes. That’s why it’s such a long shot.

Nebraska has one loss in the Big Ten and needs to beat Michigan State this week. The Spartans are still undefeated in the conference. Both offenses are not at their best, but both defenses are good, especially the Spartans’ defense. The big question is which offense can put up more points against a good defense? My guess would be Michigan State, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

If Nebraska wins, they will also need to win their last two games, and then they have to hope the Spartans lose at least one of their last two games to the Northwestern Wildcats or Minnesota.

Wow, talk about confusing.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Anything could happen at this point. After all, it is November. Personally, I would like to see the Michigan State defense against the Ohio State offense in the Big Ten championship, but that’s just me. I think it would be a very interesting game.
