One field goal return for a touchdown is the difference between Chris Davis being just another player on Auburn to becoming a household name. The greatest play in the 78-year history of the Iron Bowl is the reason Davis will never have to buy a drink in Alabama ever again, depending on where he is in the state. It’s the reason he will forever be remembered as a legend no matter where his life takes him.
How does a legend’s life begin the Monday after one of the greatest plays in college football history?
“Just got a standing ovation from my Geology class… Wow #WarEagle,” Davis tweeted late Monday morning.
That’s just one class, as I have to imagine Davis will be receiving standing ovations for the rest of the day and possibly even the week. In fact, if Auburn is lucky enough to jump the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS standings and clinch a berth in the National Championship after championship weekend, I have to imagine Davis will receive recognition for the rest of his life.
It just goes to show how crazy life truly is. It doesn’t have to be a game-changing moment in sports to change one’s life forever. There are opportunities that surround everyone on a daily basis. Davis’ incredibly athletic play and the mayhem afterwards is just a great example of what can happen to anyone at any moment in their life.
If you think Davis’ life is wild right now just imagine if Auburn goes on to win the National Championship.
