Florida State Seminoles On Way To BCS Title Game, But Are They the Overwhelming Favorite?
The Florida State Seminoles had no problem against the Duke Blue Devils in the ACC championships game. They did win by the score of 45-7 and all. The Seminoles finished the season with a perfect record and they are now on their way to the BCS title game. However, are they the overwhelming favorite?
I guess it depends who Florida State will play. It will more than likely be the No. 1 team in the BCS standings entering bowl season–currently ranked No. 1.
It will either have to play Auburn or Ohio State unless if something crazy happens and a team like Alabama earns the No. 2 ranking in the BCS standings. That is not going to happen though. The Tigers won the SEC championship, so they shouldn’t finish any worse than No. 3.
The Buckeyes are currently in a close one in the Big Ten championship game. A win should put them in the title game, but there is a chance that Auburn jumps them in the rankings.
No matter how you look at it, Florida State will more than likely be the favorite in the title game, but I do not know about the overwhelming favorite. The Seminoles have played four ranked opponents this season (at the time).
If the Seminoles have to play Auburn, they will be going up against the SEC champion. The Tigers have beaten three top 10 teams (at the time). Plus, the SEC is the best conference in college football.
Ohio State is currently undefeated, but it has only played three ranked teams all season long. Only one of those teams was ranked in the top 10.
Regardless, Florida State will have to play a very worthy and tough opponent in the BCS title game. The Seminoles should be the favorite, but I definitely would not call them the overwhelming favorite.
