After a close week one loss to the defending nation champion Florida State, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have come back to win two straight games in blowout fashion against inferior opponents. The Cowboys have cracked the Top 25 for the first time on the season and a win to start conference play will aid them in moving up the ladder.

Many people believe that second-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury will bring the Texas Tech Red Raiders into the elite category of college football. Finishing 8-5 last season and starting the 2014 campaign with a 2-1 record is a good start to his coaching career. Texas Tech has the talent to take down a team like Oklahoma State on the road.

Oklahoma State’s only loss of the season came against the No. 1 team in the land and that wasn’t the offense’s fault as it scored 33 points against the Seminoles. Junior quarterback J.W. Walsh underwent foot surgery and could miss the remainder of the season so junior Daxx Garman will need to fill in for the time being. Walsh passed for 233 yards and a touchdown in just over a game while Garman has 559 yards and four touchdowns in a little over a game and a half in place of Walsh. Brandon Sheperd, David Glidden and Jhajuan Seales all have over 100 yards receiving as Sheperd leads the way with 178 yards and two scores on seven catches. Glidden has 165 yards and a score while Seales has 155 yards and a score. Tyreek Hill leads the run game with 135 yards on 5.9 yards per carry while Desmond Roland and Rennie Childs both have 253 yards and five touchdowns combined on the ground.

Unlike the Cowboys, Texas Tech hasn’t had to rely on more than one quarterback to get the job done this season as Davis Webb leads the 17th-best passing offense in the nation. The sophomore sensation has been impressive this season, passing for 982 yards and 10 touchdowns with another touchdown on the ground. The only area for improvement for Webb would be his turnover ratio as he has thrown four interceptions on the season to combat his 10 TD passes. Jakeem Grant leads all receivers with 20 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown while Bradley Marquez has 251 yards and five touchdowns on 18 catches of his own. Texas Tech’s rushing offense is solid as well, although it ranks just 62nd nationally. Junior DeAndre Washington leads all running backs with 214 yards and a touchdown and freshman Justin Stockton has burst onto the scene with 180 yards and two scores on just 20 carries.

Defensively, Texas Tech ranks near the bottom of the nation in most categories, including points allowed and yards allowed per game. The Red Raiders rank 112th in points allowed per game with 36.7 and close to the bottom of the nation in yards allowed per game with 432.7 per contest while struggling mightily against the run. Oklahoma State ranks 64th in points allowed per game and fares better in yards allowed than the Red Raiders, allowing just 352 per contest. The crowd is sure to be rocking at Oklahoma State, likely giving Texas Tech fits.

Texas Tech will travel to Oklahoma State to take on the Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Sept. 25. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.

PREDICTION: Texas Tech 28, Oklahoma State 35
