Mississippi State Bulldogs Turn to Another Weapon on Saturday

On a day when the Mississippi State Bulldogs did not have their best, one of the smallest players on the field bailed them out.

Playing in the first game in school history while being ranked number one in the country, the Bulldogs beat the Kentucky Wildcats 45-31 on Saturday night in Lexington. While Heisman Trophy candidate Dak Prescott did not have his best game of the season, Dan Mullen turned to another of his offensive weapons to carry the load.

The hero on Saturday was running back Josh Robinson, who ripped apart the Kentucky defense all day long. Robinson rushed 24 times for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help MSU win and move to 7-0 on the season. For good measure, Robinson also caught a pass for 11 yards. No matter what he was doing, it seemed that Robinson was continually breaking Kentucky tackles and gaining more yards after contact.

Robinson’s effort was a season best, topping the 197 yards he had in the MSU win against the LSU Tigers in September.

Prescott did not help his Heisman chances on Saturday, playing perhaps his worst game so far this season. He connected on 18-of-33 through the air for 216 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed 18 times for 88 yards with two more scores. Prescott did suffer an apparent knee injury in the game which may have slowed him down in this contest.

Adding Robinson to a healthy Prescott makes the MSU offense even more challenging to defend, which is scary for the rest of the SEC.
