Not many people thought that the Arizona State Sun Devils would have a serious chance to contend for the first College Football Playoff in 2014, but that’s the exact situation they are in right now. The Oregon State Beavers have lost four consecutive games after starting the season with a 4-1 record. However, anything can happen when the ranked team is on the road.

Arizona State has one of the best offenses in the nation even though it has gone through two quarterbacks in the first nine games of the year. Mike Bercovici filled in quite adequately for the injured Taylor Kelly for a few games, but now that the senior is healthy, he is playing great, passing for 1,234 yards and 12 touchdowns with just three picks. Junior wide out Jaelen Strong has been one of the best receivers in the nation, catching 62 passes for 879 yards and nine scores. Sophomore receiver Cameron Smith has also been a force in the receiving game, catching 27 passes for 395 yards and four scores. D.J. Foster has been one of the nation’s most dynamic running backs, catching 39 passes for 462 yards and two scores while leading the team in rushing with 821 yards and six TDs.

Oregon State is lucky enough to have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in senior Sean Mannion who has been known to throw for big chunks of yards each week. Although Mannion isn’t having quite the season he had a year ago, he has still managed to throw for 2,437 yards but just 10 touchdowns along with six interceptions. Sophomore Victor Bolden has been the team’s top target, catching 51 passes for 568 yards and a lone touchdown catch. Freshman receiver Jordan Villamin has been the next closest receiver, catching 25 passes for 384 yards and a team-high three touchdown receptions. The run game hasn’t been nearly as impressive, ranking just 115th nationally. Terron Ward leads the team with 548 yards and nine touchdowns while Storm Woods is close behind with 466 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, Oregon State has been up-and-down this season. The Beavers are 4-1 when giving up less than 35 points, but 0-4 when giving up 35 or more, leading to the 88th-ranked scoring defense and the 57th-ranked total defense. Arizona State, on the same page as Oregon State, has given up 35 points or more just once and lost that contest — their only loss on the year. The Sun Devils have the 51st-ranked scoring defense as well as the 66th-ranked total defense — average, at best.

Arizona State will travel to Oregon State to take on the Beavers at 10:45 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 15. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.

PREDICTION: Arizona State 34, Oregon State 30
