CBS Not Allowed To Show Iron Bowl Because Of Its Love For Alabama

Alabama Football and CBS are like peanut butter and jelly. If you’ve felt like CBS has been airing more than its fair share of Crimson Tide action this season, it’s because it has. This Saturday’s game between Alabama and Mississippi State will mark the fifth Bama game on CBS in 2014, and five is the magic number when it comes to airing a team during one season.

Because CBS is not allowed to air a team more than five times, that means no Iron Bowl broadcast. It also means no Verne Lundquist calling the action.

But don’t worry, Iron Bowl fans, ESPN has already come to the rescue and picked up the game. That’s right, the four-letter network will be covering this year’s battle ad nauseam, as per usual.

In its place, CBS will now air the Egg Bowl (Ole Miss vs. Miss St). It will mark the first time the Egg Bowl has been broadcast on national television since 1964.
