It’s not cut-and-dry as to why J.T. Barrett should get the nod for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2015. He is, after all, part of the most complex quarterbacking situation since Urban Meyer’s first championship run with a Florida Gators team that paired an upstart Tim Tebow and veteran Chris Leak. Meyer handled both situations perfectly, and here are five reasons why he’ll handle another QB quandary perfectly again.

When all three of Urban Meyer’s quarterbacks were healthy, he decided Cardale Jones was his third-best option. After the coaching job Meyer executed this season, who is to doubt his judgment? Jones’ stock is doubtful to get any higher, and he’s already reached the pinnacle in college football achievement. He should now go out and get paid.

Perhaps J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones were flourishing byproducts of Urban Meyer’s system. Unfortunately, Braxton Miller can’t gamble on conjecture. 2015 is Miller’s showcase year for the NFL, and with teams like the Oregon Ducks and Florida State Seminoles thirsty for an elite quarterback, Miller would be silly not to use his leverage.

Barrett told Sports Illustrated he will return to Ohio State next year. This means one of two things: He’s either confident he’ll win the starting job, or he’s confident that Miller and/or Jones won’t be there in the fall.

If it weren’t for a freak ankle injury late in an already-decided game against the Michigan Wolverines, we could’ve seen Barrett siphoning Heisman votes from Marcus Mariota, if not winning it outright. It's guaranteed that Barrett has already swallowed this bitter pill and washed it down with motivation to win that trophy.

J.T. Barrett is a big reason why Ohio State obtained the privilege of entering the College Football Playoff. Ezekiel Elliott and Cardale Jones carried the load from there. Imagine if someone allegedly less-skilled at your job accomplished one of your goals because of an inevitable absence. You bet Barrett wants to lead his Buckeyes back to the Playoff.
