Jeremy Langford effectively replaced Le'Veon Bell when Bell went to the NFL, but now someone will have to replace Langford. Last year, Langford ran for 1,522 yards, and the Spartans' second-leading rusher, Nick Hill, also a senior, ran for 622.

For the second straight year, the Spartans will go into the season without a first-round caliber cornerback. Darqueze Dennard left last year, and now Trae Waynes will be playing on Sundays. As evidenced in their struggle in the Cotton Bowl, the secondary has to improve fast.
