Often times, head football coaches will hand out restrictions for where players transferring from their program can and cannot land.

The restrictions are understandable on some levels, but there can also be some unfair politicking that occurs and prohibits players from continuing their collegiate careers at their ideal program.

However, thanks to Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain, some college football players will be able to do as they please.

McElwain recently said that he will not restrict players who choose to transfer.

“I’ll help them do whatever,” McElwain said at a Jacksonville Gator Club event yesterday, via the Gainesville Sun. “In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m a pretty open book. If they don’t want to be here, I don’t want to keep them here. It’s totally up to them.

“We have a lot of great things here and a lot of great things are going to happen. So, it’s an exciting time to be a Gator.”

It is refreshing to see this attitude from a head coach and hopefully more will follow McElwain’s lead. It will certainly go a long way for the players, who know their coach is not only looking out for his best interests but theirs as well.
