Texas’ Win Against Oklahoma In Red River Rivalry Proves No One Is Safe In College Football

Wow.

That’s really all there is to say.

The Texas Longhorns entered the Red River Rivalry with a 1-4 record (and no hope). The Oklahoma Sooners entered with a perfect record and a top 10 ranking on top of that.

Of course, Texas won — just like everyone predicted…

This just proves that rivalry games know no rankings, records, momentum or favorites. This also shows that no one is safe in college football.

Here’s some proof from this season: The Ole Miss Rebels walked into Alabama and beat the Crimson Tide. That same Ole Miss team entered the Swamp and got blown out by the Florida Gators. Texas, the huge underdog, knocked off Oklahoma. Yeah, this sport makes no sense sometimes.

Charlie Strong saved his job big time with this victory (beating the Sooners is huge in Texas, or so I am told), and the Sooners took a huge shot when it comes to the College Football Playoff picture. Oklahoma could still make it since it still has to play the TCU Horned Frogs and Baylor Bears, but one must remember that TCU and Baylor both missed out on the playoff last season with one loss.

Of course, neither team has the national powerhouse label on them (every season) like Oklahoma does.

No one — and I mean no one — is safe in college football. So enjoy all of the upsets and the craziness that this sport brings on a weekly basis — because I know I will.
