For the second time in five seasons, the New York Giants and New England Patriots will meet in the Super Bowl.
It’s the first time since Rex Ryan joined the New York Jets in 2009 that the Giants or Patriots won a single postseason game, and yet, here they are, competing for the NFL’s highest honor, the Lombardi Trophy.
As a Jets fan, personally I’m happy for the Giants and their fans, less for New England. A lot less. But that’s neither here nor there.
The Jets and Giants have had a fun back-and-forth since Ryan came to New York, and believe it or not they have a very respectful relationship with each other.
I found a video on YouTube that was making the rounds on Twitter this morning, a clip from the Jets’ 2010 appearance on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” of their 2010 preseason matchup with the Giants.
Back in that game, Giants receiver Victor Cruz had a breakout game, going for three touchdowns against the Jets’ second team defense, and putting his name on the map.
Cruz, who wore #3 back then, as an undrafted rookie just fighting for a roster spot, really laid the groundwork for his breakout season a year later with this impressive showing against the Jets.
Check out this clip from August 2010, with the Jets coaches mic’d up, commenting on the then-unknown Victor Cruz, who’s star was arguably born that day. (Be advised, it contains strong language.)

I get a kick out of seeing stuff like this. Rex Ryan knows talent and so does Tom Coughlin, that’s for sure.
Victor Cruz may have seemingly come out of nowhere during the 2011 season, but he certainly didn’t surprise the Jets. The young man has certainly made himself a household name these days.
Congrats again to the Giants. Now please beat the Patriots again! It should be a great Super Bowl, and one that certainly will motivate Rex Ryan and the Jets going into next season.
