With the 2015 NFL scouting combine in full effect, former collegiate players with aspirations of playing in the NFL will have to prove to scouts why they belong in the next level. One of the big questions teams want to know right off the bat is if players believe they are mature enough to handle the NFL. With great opportunity comes fame and fortunate at a very young age. Some players can handle it, while others blow it.

This is mostly for the quarterback position, but it can still be asked for every player. When it comes down to it, does a player have the ability to command the respect and attention of his teammates? The question can be answered by watching film, but it is good for a player to explain what his on-the-field responsibilities were in college. More importantly, how close those responsibilities resemble what will be asked of him at the next level.

Every player has their own specific routine they go through before kickoff. Whether it’s a certain type of music they listen to or food they consume, athletes are creatures of habit. Knowing how a player gets ready is very important because it will reveal their work ethic. Did he watch film or work to motivate himself on game day? Knowing the answer to the question will allow teams to find out what type of player they’re getting.

This is one of the more important questions that can be asked. Essentially, teams should be probing to see if a player is big into partying or if he prefers to stay home with his family. Since a majority of the players in the NFL get more money than they dreamed of at a young age, it is easy to fall into the party scene. Whether it was highlighted in the media or slipped under the radar, questions regarding a player’s past is important. The significance of this question is for teams to decide if a player has moved past some immature moments in his life.

A quick follow up question regarding off-the-field issues is if that player has learned from his previous mistakes. It’s obvious most players are going to respond that they have grown from poor decisions that they made in their past, but it is still a good question to ask face-to-face.
