New York Jets Unveil 2012 Preseason Schedule, Will Face Panthers, Bengals, Giants & Eagles

The NFL announced their 2012 preseason schedules Wednesday, and the New York Jets will face some familiar foes, and one not so familiar one.

For the first time since he entered the NFL in 2011, the Jets will face reigning rookie of the year Cam Newton and his Carolina Panthers in a nationally televised game on August 26 at MetLife Stadium.

That game will be on NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast in Week 3 of the NFL preseason schedule, and will only be the second time that the two teams have ever faced off in preseason action.

The other teams the Jets will face this August are the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles, all of whom the Jets faced last preseason, the latter two being an annual tradition.

The Jets will go on the road to Cincinnati to play the Bengals in preseason Week 1. That game will either be played on Friday, August 10, or Saturday, August 11.

The Jets and Giants will play their annual game in preseason Week 2 at MetLife Stadium. The Jets will be considered the home team in that game, and they will battle for the second annual MetLife Cup.

Finally, in preseason Week 4, the Jets face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. This will be the 12th consecutive year that the two teams will play each other in the preseason finale.

After that, the NFL kicks off for real. The Jets’ 2012 regular season opponents was previously announced back in January. The NFL is likely to announce the official regular season schedule later this month.
