Well that didn’t take long. And everyone was super worried that this guy was going to be a bust after his dismal 39 yard performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in week one. Trent Richardson has been named Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week for games played September 13-17th. He is the first Cleveland Browns player to win the award since Charlie Frye won Rookie of the Week for his week 15 performance against the Oakland Raiders in 2005. Just over a month past surgery, Richardson plowed and grinded his way to 109 yards and a touchdown on the ground against the Cincinnati Bengals. Richardson also caught four passes and scored another touchdown on a catch and run from Brandon Weeden. TRich’s pass protection wasn’t too shabby either.

Drafted by the Browns third overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Richardson is the first rookie back to rush for over 100 yards this season. There hasn’t been a Cleveland Browns rookie running back rush for 100 yards since Lee Suggs did it in 2003.

Richardson was in a field of four others that were nominated for the award, quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, punter Johnny Hekker of the St. Louis Rams, quarterback Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins, and quarterback Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. The Pepsi Max Rookie of the Week Award is voted online by the fans.

Up next for Richardson and the Browns, the Buffalo Bills bring their revamped defense to Cleveland Browns Stadium at 1pm Sunday. If Richardson runs the way he did last week, this is yet another winnable game for the Browns.
