New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles returned to practice this week since dealing with an injury. Sproles missed the Saints’ two-game winning streak as he was nursing his left hand that he fractured back in week eight. Interim head coach Joe Vitt said that Sproles “was a full-go in shells and looked good.” However, Sproles did practice on a limited basis but that may just be in order to ease him back.

There is reason to believe that Sproles will be ready to play in the Saints’ week 11 matchup with the Oakland Raiders. The Saints will be glad to have Sproles back as he is one of the most dynamic players on the roster. Sproles does so much for the Saints whether it be rushing, receiving, or returning. A player of Sproles’ caliber is invaluable to any team and the Saints are lucky to have him on the roster.

When Sproles returns he will assume his role as the number one running back but he might not get as many carries with the emergence of Mark Ingram. When Sproles was out Ingram split carries with Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory as the running backs formed a three-headed monster for the Saints in the ground game. With Ingram’s emergence he will likely be the primary ball carrier as Sproles will split time at running back and receiver.

Hopefully Sproles’ hand will not be an issue as he returns to the field because his injury did seem pretty significant. However, Sproles is an “iron-man” of sorts and rarely misses any games so I would expect him to have a good performance against the Raiders and help the Saints extend their winning streak to three.
