NFL Rumors: One Player Out; One Returns for Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos are likely to be without on defensive star on Sunday when they face the San Diego Chargers, but they get another one back. Defensive end, Elvis Dumervil made progress this week with his injured shoulder but as of Saturday, it appears that the Broncos will hold him out for at least a week.

They would love to have Dumervil, especially versus the beat up offensive line of the Chargers, but the Broncos also know that they need him for the rest of the season. Robert Ayers played well for Dumervil last week and is likely to get the start versus the Chargers. The Broncos should be able to survive the loss of Dumervil for a game or two; they are happy that’s all it is going to be.

While Dumervil is probably out on Sunday, linebacker DJ Williams appears ready to make his season debut. Williams, from all reports, had a great week of practice and is ready to play. He won’t start but look for Williams in certain situations; including covering tight-end Antonio Gates. The only area of the Broncos defense that is questionable right now is their ability to cover tight-ends. Williams could provide immediate assistance in that area.

Williams could also offset the loss of Dumervil in the game versus the Chargers with his ability to rush the quarterback. He does not play the same position, obviously, but his ability to blitz from anywhere makes Williams dangerous. The Broncos will play him in spots due to his lack of game conditioning but he very well could make a difference on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos can all but wrap up the AFC West with a win on Sunday but the Chargers will be desperate. Because of that desperation, the Broncos have to be ready to play. The best game plan, get ahead early and take the wind out of the Chargers’ sails.
