Atlanta Falcons Make Great Addition After Signing Steven Jackson

One of the top free agencies at running back this offseason has been Steven Jackson after he decided to void the final year of his contract with the St. Louis Rams and now–it appears he’ll be joining one of the top contenders in the Atlanta Falcons for the 2013 season.

For a team that struggled at running back last year, this is a great move for the Falcons when looking at what Jackson has accomplished with the Rams throughout his career. Jackson may not display the dominant-type of numbers like Adrian Peterson or Arian Foster do, but he’s arguably been one of the most consistent running backs out there from a statistics standpoint.

In fact, Jackson has recorded at least 1,000 rushing yards in each of his last eight seasons–which is impressive for any running back in the NFL these days.

Atlanta may be a pass-first type of team, but the addition of Jackson should take off some of the pressure in Matt Ryan and the passing game when they have a lead late in games. While he gave up a ton of money, Jackson knew this was the right move when it comes to the perspective of winning the Super Bowl since he may only have a few good years left in him.

The Falcons were already expected to be one of the top teams in the NFC heading into 2013 and with the addition of Jackson–they just became even more dangerous.
