Thanks to depth issues along the defensive line, the Dallas Cowboys took a chance on four-year journeyman George Selvie.

It didn’t take long for the former South Florida product to make an impact. In fact, immediately after passing his conditioning test he was inserted with the third-team defense and he came away with a few quarterback pressures.

On Thursday, Selvie got to run with the first team and came away with two sacks in practice, which sparked some interest, at least on my part, because Selvie has just three career sacks.

Fast-forward to the Hall of Fame Game: On Sunday, Selvie continued to impress by racking up two sacks and causing chaos for the Miami Dolphins offensive line.

In college, Selvie racked up 206 tackles, 28.5 sacks and 69 tackles for loss. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams and was with the team just one season racking up 15 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.

In 2011, Selvie spent some time with the Carolina Panthers before landing with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he also played in 2012. As a member of the Jaguars, Selvie only managed to accumulate 13 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in limited time since he never got a chance to start. In 2013, he was cut by the Jaguars and spent some time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being cut there and ultimately landing with the Cowboys.

Selvie isn’t guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster, but he’s certainly made a case for himself on Sunday. Now, he must build on that performance.
