Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Vick Has Another Stellar Performance In 2nd Preseason Game
Vick ended the day going 9/10 for 105 yards and an interception, which was a desperation pass at the end of the half. He looked comfortable and poised in the pocket in Chip Kelly’s system, which may give him the edge in the quarterback competition. He was also able to lead the offense to a scoring drive, which resulted in LeSean McCoy bouncing it to the outside on a two-yard touchdown run.
Vick seems like he is running away in the quarterback race and rightfully so since he has been stellar in the preseason. Vick’s combined numbers are 13/15 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception with an 86.7 completion percentage in the two preseason games he has played.
Vick’s competition Nick Foles had an up and down day as he went 6/8 for 53 yards, one rushing touchdown and one interception. Foles didn’t play bad, but it wasn’t good enough to keep up with Vick’s performance. The one play that will cost Foles some sleep is the interception in the red zone where at first, he fumbled the football, picked it up and tried to throw it away in the back of the end zone, but was unfortunately picked off by Josh Thomas.
Foles seems like he is slowly slipping away from the quarterback competition and will need to have a couple of weeks of incredible practices and stellar performance in the preseason to have a chance. Vick looks like the guy Kelly will pick to start week one against the Washington Redskins and the way he has performed, he deserves it.
I’m not saying Foles is doesn’t have a chance to start week one, but if Vick keeps up this performance, I don’t see how Kelly can’t pick Vick to be the starter.
