This is the almighty question in the “City of Brotherly Love,” can Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick have his career resurrected by new head coach Chip Kelly? While it’s still preseason, Vick has looked smooth and poised in this offense which could bode extremely well for the Eagles when the season starts up in our Nation’s Capital at FedEx Field to take on the Washington Redskins on Sept. 9 on Monday Night Football.
A high-octane offense is a perfect fit for Vick as he is the human joystick for a reason, even though age has slowed him down a bit. Despite that, he is still faster and more athletic than probably 85 percent of the NFL, which is saying something at age 33.
Despite losing Jeremy Maclin and Arrelious Benn for the year with injuries, Vick will look like a polished and maybe even franchise quarterback, and then the Eagles will run into a dilemma all over again. It becomes what do the Eagles do if Vick does light it up and become an elite quarterback, as after this year he becomes an unrestricted free agent and would warrant a solid investment on a team’s part. If the Eagles were smart, they’d try to extend his deal midseason for as little money as possible. However, if they can’t do that, let him walk since it’s unlikely Vick will do as well under any other coach in the NFL.
All in all, it should be interesting to see what happens with Vick and the Eagles in 2013. Who knows? As they could turn everything around in a year going from 4-12 to NFC East Champions.
