10 High-Profile Roster Cuts For Baltimore Ravens
It's certainly been a crazy Labor Day weekend in the NFL world. With every team having to get there rosters at the final 53, there was a ton of players cut. Some bigger names like Vince Young, Tim Tebow and Jonathan Dwyer were some of the casualties. For the purpose of this article, I'll be going over the biggest cuts for the Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens have been surprising all of us this offseason. Trading Anquan Boldin for next to nothing. Scooping up Elvis Dumervil thanks to a fax machine mishap. Signing Rolando McClain only to have him do something predictably stupid and then retiring after that. Had it not been for McClain being a knucklehead, Daryl Smith might not be around, so thanks for being yourself Rolando. Basically to sum it up all up, you can never assume anything when it comes to the Ravens.
As far as the cuts go, the Ravens continued to surprise. I don’t normally like to give away what’s going to be in the slideshows in the intro slide, to me that’s like buying a DVD of a movie and they start playing on of the scenes of that very movie in the menu screen. Who ever thought that was a good idea by the way? I figured since I already have LaQuan Williams as the featured image I could talk about him before I talk about him more later. Williams was initially on the final 53 man roster on Saturday. Sunday afternoon, he was cut, which was very surprising after the strong preseason he had. I’ll go into greater detail on Williams later in the slideshow. But first let us get to the other nine guys starting now.

10. Tandon Doss
Nobody's stock dropped as much as Tandon Doss this preseason. Doss was a favorite to take over the starting receiver spot opposite Torrey Smith. He just didn't show up though, besides the last preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, but by then it was too late. Fredo had to take the boat ride eventually.
9. Bobby Rainey
This cut was shocking to me, considering the day before Anthony Allen and Delone Carter were cut. I figured if Rainey's competition was cut, then he wouldn't be cut as well. The Ravens probably wanted to keep Rainey on the practice squad, but the Cleveland Browns said "no mas" to that. Oh well, sometimes you roll the dice and get snake eyes.
8. Anthony Allen
Speaking of Allen. He had been the third string running back for the past two years and a key contributor on specials teams. In my opinion, Allen showed the most burst this preseason then the previous two years. I guess my vote of approval is like the kiss of death.
7. Omar Brown
This was another one of the more surprising cuts. Brown was flying around all over the place in the game against the Rams. I thought Brown was a shoo-in, but he was beaten out by two undrafted free agents Anthony Levine and Brynden Trawick. At least Brown is still on the practice squad.
6. Matt Furstenburg
Speaking of the practice squad, I'm glad that my boy Matt Furstenburg made it there at the absolute least. I still say if he was given a chance he could some major damage.
5. Billy Bajema
Billy Bajema was cut, but he'll probably be signed back once Dennis Pitta is sent to whatever IR list (hopefully designated to return). Bajema was most likely cut because they had to wait to put Pitta on said IR list. Once that happens, that will clear up a spot for Bajema to return, thus putting a healthy third tight end on the roster.
4. Visanthe Shiancoe
Shiancoe sucked so bad, he didn't even make it past the first round of cuts. Still he was a pretty big name and I'm sure some people were shocked when he was let go (Not this guy).
3. Bryan Hall
Bryan Hall is #95 in the picture if you're not sure. Hall was a scrappy defensive lineman that had to fight to make the team last year. This offseason, he was asked to lose a lot of weight (50 pounds) and switch to linebacker. The only problem is the Ravens are loaded at the linebacker position. I feel bad for the guy, but I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere.
2. Marc Anthony
Oh, poor Marc Anthony. Is this the Curse of Cleopatra or Jennifer Lopez? Either way, I was shocked when Anthony was cut. Although he was only a seventh round draft pick this year, he was still a drafted and I always hear that the Ravens never never never ever cut draft picks. And I mean never.
1. LaQuan Williams
Speaking on Williams again. He was thought to be a shoo-in after the first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in which he had two fumble recoveries (one for a TD) and an amazing TD grab. Williams looked pretty spry in the receiving game and he's always been a good special teams player, although in the Panther game he missed a tackle pretty badly on Ted Ginn, that led to a Panthers touchdown. I've got a gut feeling that Williams will be brought back at some point though.
