NFL Rumors: Which Team Will Claim Nnamdi Asomugha Off Waivers?
After a pathetic showing in his first and only season with the San Francisco 49ers, Nnamdi Asomugha was waived by the defending NFC champs after the team’s Week 9 bye. So now the husband of television star Kerry Washington is on the move yet again, but the question is: Where will he end up? It’s likely that someone will claim him off waivers considering his base salary is only $1 million and there are a slew of teams in the thick of the playoff race that need help in the secondary. For starters, the NFC North looks promising.
The Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are both fighting for a playoff spot and to keep pace with the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North standings. Considering both teams rank 25th and 26th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game, respectively, they could do better than adding a veteran like Asomugha, who might just need a different fit.
Believe it or not, another team in the same division looks like a likely destination for Asomugha as the Minnesota Vikings are already rumored to have interest. Considering this team is now 1-7, its likely to be awarded Asomugha if it claims him.
Wherever Asomugha ends up, it will likely be a last chance. Of course, that’s what his one-year deal with the 49ers was supposed to be and look how that turned out. Still, many believe Asomugha was never really given a chance to shine in San Francisco, so maybe switching teams — again — is what he needs. Or maybe he simply needs to hang it up and live off the truckload of money his wife is making while kissing another man on TV. Just sayin’.
