The Carolina Panthers were a really good team in 2013, but there are still holes for the Panthers' brass to fill. The Panthers need improvements from the secondary, especially at the wide receiver position.

Here are the five biggest rumors surrounding the Panthers as they head into free agency tomorrow.

5. Ted Ginn Jr.

Ted Ginn Jr. had a nice year in 2013, as he was all over the field for the Panthers. He was a returner and an offensive weapon in Ron Rivera's offense. Because of his career year, many teams are gearing up for a run at Ginn Jr. In an open offense, a player like Ginn Jr. is an ideal fit, and the Panthers should look to re-sign him in the coming days.

4. Mike Mitchell

Mike Mitchell excelled in 2013 as the free safety for the Panthers. At 6-feet, 210 pounds, he has perfect size for a center fielder in the NFL. The Ohio product brings a lot of energy and swagger to the football field. Mitchell and Captain Munnerlyn have both become really good football players for this defensive backfield. Mitchell is very underrated, but a safety-needy team will pay him a lot of money because of the thin market at the position.

3. James Jones

3. James Jones

James Jones lost his spotlight last year because of injuries and his awful quarterback play. While he won't get a lot of yards, Jones is one of the league's premier performers for a receiver in the redzone. In 2012, he was one of the league leaders in receiving touchdowns with 14. He also is physical at the line of scrimmage, and he would be an impact run blocker for this offense.

2. Charles Tillman

The Carolina Panthers have been linked to Charles Tillman if the veteran does not re-sign with the Chicago Bears. Tillman is widely known across the NFL as a ballhawk. He has the ability to punch the ball out and make interceptions. He would be a nice addition to Carolina's secondary. The Panthers get a lot of pressure up front with Greg Hardy and Charles Anderson, which Tillman will benefit from.

1. Hakeem Nicks

Hakeem Nicks had an abysmal year in 2013. In fact, Nicks didn't even have one touchdown catch. He caught 56 passes for a little more than 850 yards. In my opinion, Nicks has seen his production dip in the past two years because of the Giants' awful offensive line play. Nicks is a vertical weapon, and he can't be used if Eli Manning isn't getting enough time in the pocket. With Cam Newton, the North Carolina product could make an impact early.
