DeAndre Hopkins Will Be X-Factor For Houston Texans In Week 9
Although he hasn’t gotten much attention this season, DeAndre Hopkins is quietly having a breakout campaign for the Houston Texans. Hopkins, who showed flashes of dominance last season, has been arguably the Texans’ best receiving option so far this season, and it’s clear that he has gained the trust of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. That said, Hopkins hasn’t been much of a big-play threat this season, but that could all change in Week 9. Hopkins is the Texans’ X-factor, and his play could be the difference between a win and a loss this Sunday.
Hopkins, who was known as a deep-threat coming out of college, has developed into more of a possession receiver in his second NFL season. Whereas he disappeared down the stretch last season because defense took away the big plays, Hopkins should continue to thrive this season because now he can hurt the defense in more than just one way.
The most impressive part of Hopkins’ breakout campaign so far this season has to be how he has handled taking over No. 1 receiver duties from Andre Johnson. Sure, Johnson is still on the roster, but make no mistake, Hopkins is the guy the Texans want to get the ball. Despite all the extra attention that comes from being a No. 1 receiver, Hopkins has actually improved with the added pressure.
All in all, Hopkins looks to be the Texans’ X-factor in Week 9. The promising sophomore receiver is off to a great start in 2014, and with the first half of the season in the books, Hopkins will continue to be effective down the stretch.
