The best rivalry in the NFL is set to resume on Sunday night when the Chicago Bears (3-5) journey north to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers (5-3). It will be the second meeting of the season between these NFC North teams, as the Packers were able to demolish the Bears in Chicago by a score of 38-17 in Week 4.

Aaron Rodgers had one of his best games of the season in the first matchup, and the Packers’ passing game will again be the key factor to Green Bay coming away with another victory.

The Bears have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season, with quarterback Jay Cutler’s inconsistent play and the team’s poor pass defense being the main reasons for their difficult year. Specifically, they’ve allowed 17 passing touchdowns (T-25th in the NFL) and 262.2 passing yards per game (23rd) thus far.

In September’s matchup between these teams, Rodgers performed admirably by completing 22-of-28 passes, throwing for 302 yards and four touchdowns in the blowout. He consistently dissected the Bears’ defense and improved his record to 9-1 (including playoffs) against his team’s bitter rival since Cutler became the starting quarterback for Chicago.

After consistently struggling against the run last season, the Bears have significantly improved in that phase of the game and have been one of the best teams in the league defending the run this year. Thus far, Chicago has given up 110.1 rushing yards per game (13th) and only five rushing touchdowns (T-9th).

Green Bay would be wise to utilize their star quarterback again and attack Chicago through the air. Week 10’s matchup should not be the game to force-feed the ball to running back Eddie Lacy. He also struggled in the first game between these teams, rushing the ball 17 times for only 48 yards, although he did end up having a rushing touchdown.

By letting Rodgers drop back to pass consistently, he will have numerous chances against the Bears’ pass defense to get the ball into the hands of standout wide receivers Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson. If the Packers choose to go this route on Sunday night, they will win the game rather easily and defeat their arch-rival once again.
