Rams vs. Chargers: 5 Players To Watch

The last time that the San Diego Chargers faced off against the St. Louis Rams was back in 2010 and the Rams escaped with a 20-17 victory. Considering the current trend of both teams, it would seem that outcome may repeat itself this Sunday as St. Louis is building momentum while San Diego has been losing some. With that said, let's take a look at the top five players to watch for this contest.

Despite the ups and downs that he experienced while with the Tennesee Titans, Kenny Britt has always been viewed as a dangerous deep ball threat. The Rams reminded the NFL of that fact last week as Britt lit up the Denver Broncos for seven catches, 128 yards and a TD. He now gets to face a Chargers secondary where their pass coverage grade is currently -1.7. Britt may be lighting up another team this Sunday.

While it's true that the Chargers are rather weak in regards to their pass coverage, it is no fault of Brandon Flowers. If we were to only include the weeks that Flowers has played, then he would be ranked second overall in the NFL with a grade of 13.1. If San Diego wants to avoid getting burned by Kenny Britt, then it will be up to Flowers to contain him as much as possible and he is perfectly suited to do so.

3. Keenan Allen - WR - San Diego Chargers

The Rams have been showing huge signs of life on the defensive front lately. However, that is only with their defensive front as their secondary has been awful with a pass coverage grade of -21.8. On San Diego's side, Allen has averaged 12 targets per game and has converted that into a total of 21 receptions for 183 yards and a TD. Therefore, this is an extremely favorable matchup for him to have a monster game.

2. Philip Rivers - QB - San Diego Chargers

If Keenan Allen is poised to have a monster receiving game due to the glaring deficiency known as the St. Louis Rams secondary, then someone will need to be throwing him the ball. This "someone" is none other than Philip Rivers, who hasn't thrown for over 300 yards in his last four games. If there was ever a game for him to break that slump, then this is the one. Pay very close attention to him on Sunday.

1. Robert Quinn - DE - St. Louis Rams

There were growing concerns about the lack of pressure that elite DE Robert Quinn was creating for opposing offenses. However, over his last four games, Quinn has seemed to correct whatever was wrong with his effectiveness with an overall defensive grade of 11.7 in that span. His ability to get pressure on Philip Rivers without the Rams blitzing will be key. If he doesn't, and St. Louis has to blitz, then it will become the Philip Rivers Show.
