New York Giants’ Next Goal Is A .500 Season

When your team is on a six-game losing streak, any goal that is still attainable can be something to strive for. Playing for pride is all well and good, but professional athletes also have basic human emotions and frustration has to set in during low periods in a season. So now that they are 3-8, the New York Giants are looking to salvage what has been a disappointing campaign by finishing with a .500 record.

That would mean that they have to win outright and judging by the way they have been playing, the odds of that happening are not very high.

When asked about finishing the season in that fashion, head coach Tom Coughlin was not looking that far ahead. Coughlin’s former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are on tap next, and they are having a dreadful season, much worse than what the Giants are experiencing. Tied with the Oakland Raiders with the league’s worst record, the 1-10 Jags hold the dubious distinction of being dead last in the NFL for points for (161) and points against (305).

Although they can take no opponent for granted at this point considering how their season has gone, the Giants should be able to handle the Jaguars to at least give them another week to keep their revised goal of a .500 season alive.
