2015 NFL Draft: Evaluating Kevin White’s Stock After Week 14

Kevin White is one of the breakout stars to grace the college football world this season. He helped the West Virginia Mountaineers get their first winning season in the Big 12 Conference. White is a senior, so he will be leaving school and entering the NFL draft. Where is his stock right now?

It certainly isn’t as high as it was earlier this season, when he was toe to toe with Amari Cooper as best receiver in the league. Teams have been game planning to stop White in Dana Holgorsen’s offense. He has 100 yards in eight games this season. He is a serious deep threat.

He made Clint Trickett look like a top quarterback at times this season. One can argue that White’s production went down because of Trickett’s going down. It seemed like after the upset Baylor win, Trickett wasn’t able to throw the ball downfield like he used to. The offense went more towards the running game and screens. That really affected the on-field production of White.

White is still the second best receiving prospect in the country. Behind Cooper, he has held off Colorado State‘s Rashard Higgins. He showed he can play well against NFL-caliber talent. He had more than 130 yards and at least one touchdown against Alabama, Baylor and Oklahoma.

His pure size and athleticism will make NFL scouts drool. He is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. He will absolutely dominate any smaller cornerback, and can still go toe-to-toe with the bigger ones. He is crazy fast on top of that. He has the chance to be a top-ten pick, depending on need. Assuming that Cooper goes to the Oakland Raiders in the second pick, I can see White going anywhere in-between the New York Jets at the 5th pick to the Cleveland Browns at the 16th pick.

He won’t go any lower than that, as long as he can avoid injury and off-the-field incidents from now until the draft. He has an outside chance to be the highest drafted Mountaineers player since Dick Leftridge was taken third in 1966. They won’t play a hard team in their bowl game, so expect that to only help his stock.
